What can I say? This was a great episode once again! There couldn’t have been a better episode to conclude the series; it had all the elements that I loved throughout the series. By the way, if you’re still reading this and you haven’t seen the series or anything like that, I advice you that there will be spoilers in this post. After the end of the last episode I was right to think that this episode was about Hotaru planning on leaving Mikan again. Though, hearing the news from one of her classmates, she becomes more upset over the fact that Hotaru didn’t tell her herself. It also didn’t help that the only thing Hotaru would tell Mikan is that she owes her lots of money. She becomes even more depressed and to make it even worse she has to retake all her exams that she worked so hard on studying for because she failed them. Suddenly, Hotaru disappears and leaves Mikan without any notice, as Mikan’s classmates see how depressed she is they decide to go on a search to find her. They find her of course and Mikan finally gets to say a real goodbye. It was really sweet she told Hotaru that however far apart they might be they are still best friends and she promises not to be so dependent on her like she was in the past. It never came as a thought that they would relate the end with the beginning, even if it were done so often. Though, to add a perfect Gakuen Alice finish, Hotaru confesses that she was never really leaving and only going to visit a new place for a month to do some sort of smart thing and be right back. In that moment, I was one of those young kids out there who truly believed that Hotaru was going to leave Mikan forever. I really am so easily amused! The reason why I liked this episode so much was because it portrayed the series exactly as it is. It didn’t have any sudden deaths, romance scenes or 20 minute battles it was just what it is, which is something that is best at filling our hearts with joy. It couldn’t have been simpler or as complex, each character was given a moment to prove they had there own shades of gray. Now, there has been times when I’ve been bored of this series, but as they showed some of the best clips from the series during the ending credits, I couldn’t help but think how much I enjoyed this!
Sure this series had its faults, but in the end it pulled through. The final episodes are some of the most important things in a series because it has the final impact that can sometimes change your outlook on everything else. Gakuen Alice would be an example of a series that definitely pulled through in the end. Nearly nothing was actually solved, but that is once again due to the type of series this is. It is a series aimed towards children and they wouldn’t really care for those types of details. It is, as I like to call it “brainless fun”, it’s a series you can watch without a care at all. The animation is not one of the prettiest things out there, but it had its moments where it left me impressed. The thing about this series that is the best though, is its story. The plot had many possibilities with characters that go very well with it. It’s actually a good enough storyline that I might consider reading the manga. So in conclusion, this is a series worth your time. For the most part this probably wouldn’t be a series most would want to watch, but I was amongst one of those who were skeptical who didn’t believe in this series. If you’re looking for a series where you can just watch something and enjoy it, then this is the right one for you! 🙂
